i totally get your post about gillian, even though my opinion is completely opposite. just wanted to add that in the director’s commentary, the director says that jimmy wanted gillian just as badly as gillian wanted jimmy. nobody was forced into anything. and criticizing her for her parenting is sort of pointless- she never had a parent, never had anybody to teach her or show her how to parent. this is all she knows. of course she’s perpetuating the cycle of abuse- she doesn’t know that it’s wrong. in fact, she thinks it’s right. how would she know otherwise?

idk, i don’t understand it when people think she’s so ~evil~ and want her dead. her entire life and mindset are fucked up because of what was done to her. she’s a victim in the exact same way jimmy is. imo the person to blame is the Commodore. people saying she should’ve known better (not directed at you) because she is the parent are completely ignorant about the kind of abuse she’s suffered and what it does to a person mentally. especially when there were no shrinks to talk to, nobody to set an example. this is literally the only way she knows how to express her love to the one stable man in her life. it’s wrong by our modern day standards of course, but all things considered, that episode made me empathize with jimmy and gillian more than ever before.
